Created by identical twins, “Chow Bella” is a combination of one twin’s photography and the other’s written word. It is a product of their increasing awareness to their own becoming, as they navigate the intricacies of growing up as mixed-race children. As their Chinese half becomes more prominent with age, the book documents a pivotal moment of self-discovery during a trip to their father’s homeland in Hong Kong. 

Through photography, the author breaches the historical language barrier between him and his family, whilst assimilating himself into a country he wishes he felt more familiar in. Driven by a desire to find a sense of belonging, this project aims to be a refuge for those who share similar experiences, or an insight for those who do not.
