Andover and Six Acres is a startling piece of work that disrupts the easy representation of a housing estate as an oppressive, dangerous and difficult environment to live. Cian has achieved a real sense of optimism and intimacy from a community that is complex, nuanced and ambiguous.  The relationship between the portraiture and the landscapes creates a startling symbiosis; the shafts of light that fall across the austere concrete corridors are echoed in the lives of the residents who populate the estates. Each subject has a spark, a personality beautifully captured by Cian’s camera.
