As a child, I was told that ‘The Batch’ a coal slag heap in North Somerset was a volcano. The Black Earth is a body of work rooted in this childhood memory. This harmless playful deception transformed an industrial remnant into a mythical, natural wonder in my mind. The Black Earth seeks to manifest this imaginative leap, exploring how memories can shape and alter our perception of a space. Through this series, I have created a fantastical parallel place, where a volcano exists in the West of England, blending the lines between reality and imagination.
